They occupy most of the known planet; their sprawl has gone unhindered for thousands of years. Damascans are the people created by the god Kirath, and the only race of people the gods choose to take forms as. They were the first people to occupy the Damascan planet. Damascans have human bodies, and their typical natural lifespan is 75 years. Kirath has endowed their souls with a special ability to be reborn into a new body after the current body perishes - this is called reincarnation. If trained, Damascans can use the power of their souls to perform magic. According to Damascan custom, people take the name of the person they are reincarnated from. Both magic and reincarnation will be further explained in the Appendix. Damascans currently organize themselves into several Kingdoms, and have experimented with several hierarchy systems in the past, such as Clans and a One-World government. :Dachturan: The Dachturans are incredibly similar to the Damascans - in fact, their race is a product of genetic drift from the main gene pool. They began as Damascans who moved off to a secluded part of the world and there developed their own society. Not only is Dachturan biology nearly identical to that of the Damascans, they also have a similar culture. Dachturans, having stemmed from Damascans, are capable of performing magic and being reincarnated. However, the Dachturan people have been too secluded for a god to want to choose to pass his soul into a Dachturan body. This race has the same lifespan as the Damascans. All Dachturans currently belong to one kingdom, Aumurrea. The island of Dachtura is the only known home of this race of people. :Rashkan: The Rashkan people are not nearly as advanced as the Damascans or Dachturans. Rather, they are savages, and though humanoid they live like animals. The Rashkans are the descendants of the survivors of the Magrathean holocaust, and over time this race has been mutated by the evil powers that surround the wilderness of the continent. Most Rashkans follow necromancy as a profession - the magic of reviving the bodies (but not the souls!) of the dead. They have allied themselves with Trunker, a powerful high necromancer under the control of Medravius. Their power structure is very loose, and the lack of an organized hierarchy makes rebellions quite common. The only goal of the Rashkan people seems to be to rid the continent of Magrathea of all species that are foreign to it; most especially, the Damascan settlers. As people begin to make homes in Magrathea, they must face the wrath of the brutal Rashkans. :Daemon: Daemons are a sort of sub-class of humans. Basically, they are Damascans, Dachturans, or Rashkans who have utilized the power of magic to extend their lifespan and increase their powers. They may also have combined their soul with a spirit from another plane (parallel world or level of existance). Daemons are not mindless monsters, but rather a people soaked in ancient magic. They are typically though of as evil, as having schemed to gain longer life, but daemons can be of either good or evil alignment. No one can be born a daemon; people must train extensively in magic and have the ability to converse with creatures on other planes. Regular people are frightened of daemons and do not try to become one. There have been few daemons in Damasca's history, such as Veros, Bowlich, Sakiro Atropos, and the Ragnarok family. Humanoid "monsters" such as lichs and vampires are included in the daemon grouping. 3.2: FOREIGN PEOPLES These races of people were not found originally on the Damascan planet, and have come from another time or place in the universe to inhabit Damasca. :Gathione: These extra-terrestrials have come from the Damasca of the future to wreak havoc on the current people. They possess very advanced technology, and assimilate people of other worlds to increase their population and slave holdings. They begin as humanoid organic creatures but began grafting mechanical parts onto their bodies to become "superior". Even the biology of the organic Gathione was very different from that of the current Damascans - they had greenish-blue skin and other interesting features such as small horns. These mutations were caused by a chemical pollutant in the future Damasca. Gathione lifespan is currently unknown, as many humans do not initiate contact with the Gathione. This foreign race is inactive currently, but may become more agressive in the future. The Gathione and their history is explained further in the Appendix. This race is allied with Medravius, the villain god who schemes to destroy Damasca. :Menastan: The Menastan were a race of people from the planet Haahn that were assimilated by the Gathione, who were in search of more slaves. Taken from their homeworld and transformed into Gathione, they now help terrorize Damasca. However, the Damascans have found a way to revert the Menastan into their original form, and hence gain valuable information about the Gathione from them. The Menastan and their homeworld are further explained in the Appendix. |Note: In the game, players can only be of the Damascan or Dachturan race. Which of these the player becomes is dependent on their choice of Kingdom.| ------------------------------------------------------------------------ S E C T I O N 4 - K I N G D O M S ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ S E C T I O N 5 - O L D- W O R L D C L A N S ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ S E C T I O N 6 - F A M I L Y C L A N S ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ S E C T I O N 7 - H I S T O R I C A L F I G U R E S ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A P P E N D I X A - E ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Travelling Magrathea at night is guaranteed suicide without a lantern or something, because the undead fear light and civilization.
