The unimaginable has happened. Two worlds from different corners of the musical universe have collided, and from the debris arises Slipknot. Hip-hop and ultra-heavy metal has been fused together and the result is unbelievable. Slipknot’s got to be the pinnacle of the rap/metal crossover scene, because it’s hard to imagine an album being heavier and still retaining the hip-hop influence. It’s like putting death metal, rap, pimp rock, and industrial in a gigantic blender and going right for the liquefy button.

Hailing from the quiet state of Iowa, Slipknot boasts a roster of nine members renaming themselves 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Wearing creepy masks and matching coveralls, these guys look like they just escaped from a maximum-security mental ward. And their sound reflects their appearance. Twisted titles like “Eyeless”, “Frail Limb Nursery”, and “Prosthetics” give you a clear understanding of their psychotic angle… and they have that market cornered. It's music that would make Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lechter proud.

Slipknot’s self-titled debut is released for the world to hear. Fear this band…but embrace this album. Padded cell or straightjacket? - Ian Bartosevich
