Peterhof, in St. Petersburg, closed its fountain season last month with a magnificent show featuring laser special effects and fireworks. The colorful display, called Fontaniana, marked the 305th anniversary of the state museum complex.
The two-day celebration took place on September 17th and 18th, attracting thousands from around the world. The first part of the multi-media concert comprised a light show and ballet entitled Bolero with fire, to music by Maurice Ravel. The second part was dedicated to the anniversary of Peterhof’s construction. The audience watched the history around the construction of this famous tsar’s palace as it was displayed on the façade of the Grand Palace itself.
Peterhof was founded by Peter the Great in 1714 and was ceremonially opened in August 1723. In 1997 Peterhof was designated as a World Heritage Site of UNESCO
