An exhibition called "The Wonderful Christmas of Tsar Nicolas II" is under way in Chateau de Grand Bigard in Belgium. Alexander Shisho has more.

On display in the magnificent 17th-century castle just outside Brussels is a collection of clothes, army uniforms, state decorations, documents and rare accessories, all dating from the rule of Nicolas II. The exhibition was sponsored by the Brussels-based Russian Heritage Fund. Of special interest are life-size photos of members of the imperial family, wax statues of Tsar Nicolas II, his wife Alexandra and their son, Prince Alexei, provided by the St. Petersburg Museum of Wax Figures. Video footage from the Romanovs' archives and a miniature replica of the imperial Winter Palace in St. Petersburg with figurines of the emperor and the empress greeting guests on the staircase help revive the Christmas atmosphere of the Russian Court. There are also miniature models of a Russian town, the interior of a peasant log house and a bath house.

A descendant of the castle's owners, Cedric Pelgrims de Bigard, shares his impressions of the exhibition:

"We are glad to host this exposition, which we find interesting and informative. The history of Russia and Belgium is closely interwoven. Our castle is of great historical significance. Its splendor and opulence best-suit an event devoted to the Romanov family".

"The Wonderful Christmas of Tsar Nicholas II" has attracted numerous guests from Belgium and neighboring countries. The exhibition runs through January 17.
