Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited the Alexander Palace on Tuesday. He was accompanied by St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko.

Together, they were given a tour of the State Rooms which were recently restored "right down to the last detail".

Medvedev was shown photographs from the studio of Karl Bulla, who had photographed the rooms of the palace before the Revolution. The Russian president was surprised that some of the original interiors had survived, and that original pieces of furniture, paintings, and even a tiger skin rug from the palace had survived after the Revolution.

Medvedev was then invited to sign the palace guest book. He also toured St. Catherine’s Cathedral and the Hemitage Pavilion at Tsarskoe Selo, before the Russian president departed for Finland.
