Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna made a visit to Tsarskoe Selo over the weekend. The Head of the Russian Imperial House arrived in St. Petersburg last week for the funeral of her mother, Grand Duchess Leonida Georgievna at the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral.

Her visit to Tsarskoe Selo included a stop at the Feodorovsky Cathedral where a liturgy was held for her mother. The service was also attended by her son, Grand Duke George Mikhailovich. Her Imperial Highness presented the cathedral with the Feodorovskaya Mother of God icon as a contribution to the commemoration of the departed soul.

She then visited the Alexander Palace where she toured the rooms of the last Russian Imperial family, as well as the newly restored halls which are scheduled to open later this month.

Also during her visit, the Grand Duchess visited the site of St. Catherine’s Cathedral, which is currently being reconstructed. A royal gift which consisted of the relics of St. Catherine and an icon of Our Lady where presented to the cathedral by the Her Imperial Highness. The royal gift was in honour of the 300th anniversary of Tsarskoe Selo.
