ENGLISH SUMMARY & PHOTO CAPTIONS! 140 Black & White Photographs
The images dating from the 1870s to 1917, have preserved for posterity: palace interiors, park pavilions and monuments, summer homes of the nobility, cathedrals and churches, as well as events at Tsarskoye Selo. These images have been captured through the camera lens of famous Russian photographers. This collection is of immense historical value in that they offer a rare glimpse of the interiors of the halls and other rooms of the Imperial residences as they appeared in the early part of the 20th century. Many of these photographs were published in books on the history of the Imperial residences, prepared for the 200th anniversary of Tsarskoye Selo in 1910. The photographic images of the interiors of the Catherine and Alexander Palaces, as well as the Agates rooms, made in 1917 by A. A. Zeestom are of particular importance. The preservation of these photographs proved to be invaluable with the reconstruction and restoration of the Catherine Palace and the creation of museum exhibitions in the post-war years. To this day they have not lost relevance and are assisting with the current restoration work of the Agate Rooms of the Catherine Palace, as well as in the Alexander Palace. The album, prepared by the research staff of the Tsarskoye Selo Palace Museum Complex, consists of six sections: (1) The Catherine Palace and Park, (2) The Alexander Palace and Park, (3) The Town of Tsarskoye Selo, (4) Military Parades, (5) The Imperial Railway, and (6) The Tsarskoselskaya Jubilee Exhibition. Each photograph is described in both English and Russian. This book will delight anyone who has an interest in the history of Tsarskoye Selo and its Romanov legacy. Only 1,000 copies of this beautiful pictorial were printed.
