Buxhoeveden, a member of Empress Alexandra’s entourage who was with the Romanovs during their imprisonment at Tsarskoe Selo and Tobolsk, gives a detailed account description of the conditions under which the Romanovs lived, their relations with the soldiers who guarded them, and their transfer to Ekaterinburg at which point the Baroness was separated from them by Bolshevik order.
