With the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, Russia once again found itself in armed conflict with the Ottoman Empire.
In September of 1915, the Grand Duke Nicholas Nicholayevich was appointed Commander-in-Chief and Viceroy of the Caucasus region of the Russian Empire.
In this video, the grand duke is seen reviewing Russian troops at the Caucasian Front near Kars.
