Topic: Alexander II

The Romanovs are one of the world's most photographed royal families. Colour photography was still in its infancy when the monarchy fell in Russia in 1917, making colour images of members of the Imperial family very rare.
This colour photograph, taken in 1870, of the Emperor Alexander II with his daughter, the Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna is indeed unique.
This particular photograph was part of a unique exhibition Russia: A History Through the Lens, held several years back in the Exhibition Hall of the State Archive of the Russian Federation (GARF) in Moscow.
