THE FLYERS MESSAGE BOARD!

KeepersDome NHL

Will the Flyers trade for a defensemen?  Will they try to acquire a goalie? Will they look for another forward for the top line?  Or will they go another enforcer?  One of these important questions has been answered, and unfortunately for the Flyers the answer is that with the Gino Odjick acquisition, we now have the enforcer we all know we need.  Forget that we have Sandy McCarthy and Craig Berube, Bob Clarke felt that we needed another enforcer.  Ok, all kidding aside, the Flyers have not met any of there needs as of yet, and with the trading deadline less then a month away, time is fleeting.  But there are few answers out there, and none of them are simple, or they would have been done by now.  Some names being thrown around are Jeff Hackett, Dominick Hasek,  and Nikolai Khabibulin.  The question is which of these goalies is better then the goaltending tandem we have now.  We as Flyers fans scrutinize every goal that is scored and do not allow any mistakes to be made.  We don't see any of these others goalies every night so we don't see there mistakes that we get to see of John Vanbiesbrouk.  And when we play against these goalies, they never let in bad goals, it's the Flyers that make a great play.  So think about it, which of these will be better?  A Jeff Hackett that has never proven himself as a non-disputed starter and is playing second fiddle in Montreal to Jose Theodore?  Or a Nikolai Khabibulin who has seen zero NHL action this year and is playing in the IHL?  Or a super star goalie who has had groin problems all year long and his health is in question?  There are red flags around all the goalies we could aquire, so the question is which one would be an upgrade?  On the defensemen front, there is a definite room for improvement.  Chris Therien has proven that he can't play with the top players in this league, and is give-away prone, and can not make up for his mistake by correcting the mistake.  He doesn't hit and he is slow.  Could a Vladimir Malakov take his place?  Could another established NHL defensemen be had to take over?  How about Zarley Zalapski?  Well we know that's not the answer, but a puck moving defensemen that can start up the play is a need, because the offense starts with the defense.
