Left Winger John Leclair

Three seasons, three fifty goal seasons. The Flyers aquired left winger John Leclair from the Montreal Canadiens along with defensemen Eric Desjardins for right winger Mark Recchi. Upon coming to the Flyers, Leclair was tried on the left side on a line with Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg. The line immediatly clicked. Leclair netted twenty six goals in his partial season as a Flyer. The line devesated apposing defenses. The line was so big and strong, and cycled the puck so well, that the other team's defensemen had trouble staying with the Lindros line. And even when they did get the puck, they had a couple of bodies to get it past to clear the zone, and a lot of the times they would be stripped of the puck and the Flyers were cycling again. The line was dominating down low, espcially against small defensemen, and this started a real push for larger defensemen who could physically handle this line. The line then got the name it was famous for from current Philadelphia Phantom Jim Montgomery: The Legion of Doom. Leclair and Lindros and Renberg went on to be the best line in the NHL until Renberg was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning with defensemen Karl Dykhuis for center Chris Gratton. During Renberg's absence, Leclair went on to another fifty goal year, with many people going threw the revolving door on the right side of his line. But during the 1998-99 season, an apparnt solution to this problem was found. That came in when the Flyers traded Shjon Poedin to the Colorado Avalanche for Keith Jones. For the first time since Renberg's departure, the Lindros line was dominate as a line, not just dominate as Leclair and Lindros. There cycling came back and Jones could cycle with the big boys. But then another player was obtained who might take Jones place on the top line. The player was Mikael Renberg. He was re-aquired by the Flyers with Daymond Langkow for Chris Gratton and Mike Sillinger. But the Legion of Doom was not reunited, because Jones was doing a good job with the top line. Leclair is again on pace for another fifty goal season, and he is the only one on pace for fifty goals this year.
