The Carey name is full of tradition and heritage. The name Carey can be traced to Ireland and Scotland.

The name Carey in Ireland is derived from the native Gaelic O'Ciardha Sept who were located in County Kildare. The name is now widespread but most common in the Province of Munster. The name was also brought to the country by Anglo settlers.
Over the years, the Carey name has taken many forms, including: Carew, Carry, Cary, Casey, Kerr, Kerry, Keary, O'Ciarain, O'Ceirin and even Curran. The Carey coat of arms appears on this page. The background tartan is the Kerr family tartan.

So what is this IGROKSPOCK thing about? Back in the 1960's, when Star Trek was not in reruns, Robert A. Heinlein's book "Stranger in a Strange Land" was very popular. Grok is a term coined by Heinlein in the book. Many young people who read Heinlein's book also were big Trek fans. A popular melding of these two phenomenon appeared on bumper stickers and T-shirts with the phrase "I grok Spock."
