She is drained and already missing her new friends! People have been extremely kind, generous and supportive of her efforts (call Susan; she needs to talk about this) but she can't wait to get back down South.
At the moment, they are in need of :
BAND INSTRUMENTS= we had some but they were all destroyed... music makes everybody smile (i.e. football games & parades) & who doesn't love a little sing-along?
LITERATURE=
new or gently used books; all genres
WALMART= gift cards in $25 increments
(This limit is suggested as Walmart is having trouble restocking since it is not fully operational yet.) SHIPPER/SHIPPING= If anyone knows of anyone or would be willing to assist us with shipping, that would be of tremendous help as our previous shipper has bailed out and shipping is getting costly.
Susan also brought back native Southern seeds...the landscape is destroyed. Students at PS 19 will be working with Mary Sciales from the NY Botanical Gardens, to grow the seeds in a controlled environment. Restarting from the ground up includes plants and morale! "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn Too"
The theme song is Black Water, Mississippi Moon, Doobie Brothers, 1975. (They still play it on the radio on a daily basis.)
You can still contact us via email (link at the bottom of page) as we still need your help. Remember, it's not over yet!

Aside from school supplies, we feel that the kids will also need to nap and snack during whatever educational instruction they will have. We need your help! Please take the time to make mega batches of G.O.R.P (good old raisins and peanuts) Make the mix however you like it! It tastes GREAT! Cheerios, Mini pretzels, Raisins, M&M candies The recipe calls for peanuts and they make the mix taste great but .... we must request some without due to food allergies. After mixed, divide into sealable sandwich bags. Label bags 'peanuts' and 'no peanuts.' Place all bags in an airtight tin. This will enable freshness, prevent crushing during shipping as well as against critter attacks.
Please consider sending a nap mat. You can purchase these where you would find most school supplies. Please label with you name, address and phone number. This might help us create a pen pal as well as a Thank You activity.

Hurricane Katrina created quite a messWith broken hearts and related stress Before all the damage can be accessed There are many issues to be addressed
People uprooted from their homes Through flooded streets hopelessly roam Many have given up in despair While others vow to build and repair
I still have faith in the Human Race With all the problems they will face Survivors are glad just to be alive In this year two thousand and five
"Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play
Dear Prudence open up your eyes
Look around round
Dear Prudence let me see you smile
