We’ve vilified Muslims and the Middle East
We’ve vilified immigrants and refugees
We’ve glorified war and our reasons for going
And dismissed the evidence against it, which is constantly growing
We’ve made ourselves heroes, our enemies: a race
We’ve assured that our patriotism is misplaced
We’ve convinced ourselves mostly that we’re justified
And completely correct for taking part in the fight
We’ve sun-baked comfortably in another nation’s sun
We’ve warmed to the notion of doing “what must be done”
We’re blissfully ignorant with the reasons we’ve produced
But when does a reason become an excuse?
Tell Corey what you thought of this in the guestbook.
