Our House
This is our lovely home where I've been living with Katie and two other teachers
from the local school, Charlie and Kristen. It's an "Access" style
building, which means it doesn't have a lot of character, and there are a lot of
other homes throughout the north that look exactly the same. Nevertheless, it's serves us very
well in keeping us insulated from the frigid air, and keeping out polar
bears.
We are lucky to have a house positioned so that we get a nice vista from our
front room windows.

Supposedly, this is our shed. As you can see, it has suffered some slight
structural damage and hasn't really been of much use to anyone. Nobody is sure what happened exactly...
This is how we get water. Because of the unyielding rocky land, laying sewer and water pipes isn't exactly a feasible project for many
northern towns. Instead, homes are equipped with two tanks somewhere inside
(usually in the crawlspace...digging basements isn't really an option either),
one for fresh water, the other for sewage. The pump truck pictured here collects water from a
nearby lake and delivers it to the homes, while another looking a lot like it pumps out the waste
collection tank and dumps it into Hudson's Bay. Excitingly complex, no?
