The photo above records the first full-scale replica of a Viking-era ship in North America after crossing the Atlantic from Norway in 1893.

Since then, many other replicas have been built and sailed and from each we learn more about the methods employed in their construction, new obstacles to be overcome and ultimately our past.

The Australian Viking Ships Museum aims to make comprehensive information about Viking-era ships available to the general public.
