We Should all live in Caravans

People spend most of their time outside of their homes, usually at work. In fact, it’s pretty sad that people spend most of their money on their homes, if you include the mortgage or rent, and all the entertainment systems, furniture, etc you can buy. And yet they only enjoy these things for a few hours in the evenings. Even on the weekends, people usually go out somewhere, and for longer periods of holidays, it’s normal to leave your city altogether on vacation.

People want a home where they have their own space, but modern life requires travelling, to go to work, to school, to places of entertainment, to visit family and friends. The obvious solution is a caravan, where you can have both at the same time. If you feel tired at work and want to take a nap, just retire to your caravan. If you want to spend more time with family or friends, you don’t have to worry about travelling home to get ready for work the next day, because you already are home. You could simply join up your caravan with theirs, by using some kind of adjourning wall, and then you could both be visiting each other’s houses at the same time.

A caravan wouldn’t fit as much stuff inside as a house, but that’s okay because a caravan would make it easier to visit places for entertainment anyway. Instead of watching tv or a dvd at home, you can take your caravan to the drive-in cinema, and make your own popcorn and fall asleep in front of the big screen, all in the comfort of your own home. And all your friends can go with you too. You wouldn’t have to worry about not having a garden for the kids to play in, because you can drive them to the playground and watch them play with the other kids. And you wouldn’t have to worry about taking them home afterwards.Of course you would need a lot more parking space, but that would be balanced out by the fact that there would be no more houses taking up space. If you actually like gardening as an activity, we could have some communal gardens, which would mean everyone could enjoy your gardening not just the people who happen to visit your house. And instead of gardening alone, you would make a lot of friends while you are doing it.

To manage the logistics of people in one family wanting to be in different places, parents can have one caravan each. They can join them up when they’re at home. If there’s a divorce, they can arrange their lives around the same caravan park so that the children can visit whichever parent they want to any time.Teenagers can get their own caravan when they learn to drive.

Instead of having all these private spaces (domestic residences) you have to pass by before you can get to a place you have the option of enjoying, every place would be one you can potentially use. Either roads, caravan parks, or places of entertainment or recreation or work. And caravans are not that much bigger than cars, and much smaller than houses, so by eliminating cars and houses and having only caravans, there would be much more space for parks, natural reserves, and recreational areas.
