Central
Market, Kuala Lumpur

This pre-war
building was the principal wet market for
Kuala Lumpur in the early years. It was
extensively renovated in the 1980's and
turned into an arts and cultural centre. It
has become the place for local artists to
demonstrate their skills and display their
work. There are numerous shops and stalls
which sell bric-a-brac, antiques, souvenirs,
handicrafts and Asian artefacts. An open air
stage serves as the regular venue for
traditional and contemporary dances as well
as musical concerts.

Craft
Complex, Kuala Lumpur

There are two
craft centres in Malaysia. One is located in
Kuala Lumpur and the other in Langkawi.
Known as Kompleks Kraf, the Malaysian
handicrafts showroom act as a 'One Stop
Centre' for tourists to purchase local
souvenirs. The craft complex in Kuala Lumpur
is a stone throw's away from Bukit Bintang
area, a famous shopping district in the
city. Strategically located, the centre
offers numerous souvenir items that are
uniquely Malaysian. The choices are
abundance. You'll get to choose ceramics,
batik clothing, wooden ornaments and a lot
more.

Cultural
Centre, Kota Bharu, Kelantan

Located on
Jalan Mahmud close to the Perdana Hotel, the
cultural centre is a veritable showcase of
the living heritage of Kelantan.
Demonstration of popular folk arts and
pastimes are held daily. Wayang Kulit
(shadow puppetry) shows, Silat (the Malay
art of self defence) performances, Gasing
(Top spinning) displays, Wau (Kite flying)
and Rebana (Giant Drum) playing can all be
seen at the centre. Evenings see cultural
performances featuring traditional Malay
music and Wayang Kulit.
The cultural centre is open three times a
week from March to October each year.
Performance times are 3.30pm to 5.50pm on
Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and 9.00pm to
midnight on Wednesday and Saturday.

Gombak
Orang Asli Centre, Selangor

Situated at
the 20th km mark on Jalan gombak after Batu
Caves, this settlement nestles amidst
secondary forest and features an Orang Asli
Museum and Craft Shop. Visitors can have an
insightful glimpse into the lifesyle and
social culture of Selangor’s “original
people” that is fast-disappearing with
development and modernisation.

Infocraft
Centre, Melaka

Infokraf
Melaka is the handicraft promotion centre
where quality products such as batik, canes,
bamboo, ceramics and other wares are
carefully selected as exhibits based on
workmanship and design. Made by local
craftsmen, the products can be purchased as
souvenirs. The centre also has an archive
corner to enlighten visitors on the subject
of local handicraft. The centre is open from
9.00 am to 5.00 pm everyday except on public
holiday.

Johor
Tourist Information Centre , Johor

Johor Tourist
Information Centre (JOTIC) is a one-stop
centre for visitors to get a better
understanding of Johor. Beside the
availability of informative print materials
like brochures on Johor, there are shops
selling various types of handicrafts which
are mostly Johor's very own. Occasionally,
visitors are entertained with live cultural
performance. Traditional food can also be
savoured at the centre's food court.

National
Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur

The National
Art Gallery that exists today is highly
praised by many visitors who have come and
view its exhibits. As one enters its doors,
there is a centre piece sculpture made of
metal. For those interested in taking photos
of the gallery and artwork, please spare a
few minutes to fill up a requisition form to
obtain a pass. As you go further into the
main area of the gallery, there are many
sculptures which reflect a lot of emotion in
the masterpieces. The main area gives you a
pleasant feeling as the ambience is warm and
comforting.
