Welcome to the very first issue of the Sydney University Radio Group’s newsletter.

What we are hoping to do with this publication is keep you up-to-date with what’s happening with the group, especially in areas where you may be able to make a significant contribution to group projects.

The newsletter will be sent to all SURG members once a fortnight [two weeks], unless something major comes up, in which case you can expect to receive a special edition in your mailbox.

If there is anything you’d like to see appear in your newsletter, don’t hesitate to bug us until we do something about it.

In the mean time, enjoy all the exciting news in this our first edition.

SCHOOL

Our Barton Room studio is almost at an operational level that will allow us to get all of you budding announcers in to begin training. The stations launch onto the intranet is scheduled to coincide with the Union’s September Arts Festival [more information in Station Launch], and we are aiming to have all on-air talent fully acquainted with panel operation by that date.

Now is the time to let us know if you would like to get on-air next semester.

Your training time will need to be scheduled, and your share of time slots will have to be established, so make your desires heard before time runs out.

You need not have any experience in the radio biz, nor be doing any communications related study here at Usyd in order to get your piece of aural space. What you do need to have is an aim to produce as ‘professional’ a program as possible, and don’t worry, we will help you achieve this aim, just as long as you have the motivation.

For those of you who have already cut your teeth in community radio stations, it will just be a matter of familiarising yourself with our equipment.

There is no cost involved in attending our radio school, you only need be a SURG member.

So, if you want to be geared-up for a start in Usyd’s next great student institution, contact the SURG executive TODAY!!
