Sylva Locke, has now been recognised as a rising star amongst artists across Australia and Internationally.

Sylva held her first exhibition when she was in senior high school with great acclaim from teachers, respected artists and the media with such success that Sylva sold most of her works, on opening night. Sylva was reviewed and highly acknowledged by the Tasmanian Examiner newspaper in a feature article.

One of Sylva’s highly praised works, “Bumbite”; was selected as the largest of all paintings in “Art Rage” a traveling exhibition of outstanding student art. Sylva’s work was then used to represent Australia at an international art education seminar in New York. Sylva’s work also appears on the Chroma Acrylic Website and has appeared on the Seven Network’s Getaway show. “Bumbite” now holds pride of place as part of the Newstead College Art Collection in Tasmania.

Whilst studying at the University of Tasmania Sylva hosted another duel exhibition displaying a vast collection of highly complimented works. The exhibition proved a sellout success with virtually all works snapped-up on opening night and the remainder shortly after opening. Sylva’s work was reviewed and highly praised by local celebrities and received publicity through the Launceston Examiner and Local Launceston Radio Stations.

Sylva now has work hanging in private collections throughout Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

Sylva labels her work as “Abstract Expressionism” and although her work may appear to contain a defined structure, Sylva is always based around minutes or hours of “Automatism”. “Automatism” is a technique discovered by the surrealists, where only the subconscious is used as a guide to where the paint goes (as opposed to outside influences).

Sylva is currently studying at the Queensland College of Art whilst her ambition is to eventually travel overseas to further her study.
