TIM TANK

Few people can have a significant impact on an individual’s life
and rarely will someone affect the way you live every day. Fortunately
for me, I have somebody like that in my life. His name is Tim Tank.
He
has helped me change my life from a freshman struggling to find an
identity, into a senior getting the most out of life.
At first appearance, one might wonder if Tim is for real. He is
easily identifiable as a man with a lot of energy and trying to be as
involved as possible. His constant good attitude and high-energy makes
you wonder if he acts like this for attention, or he is really this
excited about life? After you get to know him, you realize that he
lives like this everyday.
I met Tim my freshman year in the first days of school. I was at a
football game and I remember this random guy came up and started
talking
with one of my best friends about football. After their conversation,
I
asked my friend, “Who is that?” and he explained to me that he was the
leader for freshman boys in a youth group. I remember going to the
first meeting of this care group, and talking about things I was
familiar with in the Bible. I became really excited about Sunday
evenings every week.
Guys my age were involved in this care group, but I only knew one of
them really well. I was a little shy at first to open up to a group of
guys that I wasn’t familiar with, but I eventually did and everybody
became friends. We spent time together during summers, went to Blazer
games together, enjoyed meals at Red Robin, Dairy Queen, went to the
movies, and made bets on football games. Pretty soon, this group of
guys who didn’t really know each other, were spending weekends together
and growing close. Tim was the glue that kept us together. We grew as
friends and looked to the Bible every Sunday about friendship, loving
other people, not swearing, and becoming fine young men. We prayed for
sports, relationships with girls, families and all of each other’s
needs.
Three years later, the same thing is continuing and Tim is still
there with us. I have a lot of best friends and at least five of them
are in this group with me. I spent the whole summer with three of
them,
growing in friendship and brotherhood. I am so thankful to have Tim in
my life and looking at what he did three years ago is incredible. He
brought ten guys together who were identified as Christians, but not
the
best of friends. He took this group and has molded us into men of
strength, courage, leaders in sports, school, and music for what we
believe in. He shows us how to live as a teenager in our society
today,
gives us advice about everything, and gives us his genuine love. He
has
brought together the ASB president, two captains of the football team,
two leaders on the basketball team, one in cross country, one in
wrestling, two in golf, four in track, five in choir, two in soccer,
and one in baseball. We are a group of guys that love each other, love
the Lord, and love life.
I don’t know what life would be like without Tim in it. All I know is
that I thank God everyday for such a great leader, friend, counselor,
coach, and mentor like Tim. He definitely brings a lot of joy,
inspiration and love to my life. Because of Tim, I am inspired to be
a
better person and live my life for the Lord everyday and I truly am
getting the most out of life.
