How to CONTAIN your opponent

Playing defense and putting a player on "LOCKDOWN" are two different things. Learning to contain a player may increase your ability to lock a player down and force the ball over or force them to pass the ball.

Defensive Position Objective
  • Never look at the Ball
  • Your opponent may make a sudden move with the ball and take your focus off of them
  • Focus your eyes on your opponents chest or stomach.
  • This is center part of your opponents body so whenever they move their chest moves
  • Keep your feet shoulders length apart, knees bent and stay low
  • This will help your balance and prevent your opponent from dribbling the ball in front of you.
  • Make sure your hands are stretched out as far as possible
  • If your opponent tries a crossover with the ball, keeping your hands out could cause a turnover in your favor.

These are just basic defensive positions, but with increased physical strength you will be able to be more effective on defense.
