Reality of a Star

The confusion had finally made a toll on Sarah’s mind. Not only did Alexis unload a bit of confusing information, but now he was ad-libbing. This pushed her over the edge. She was just about to yell at Joss to let him now this whole day has been way too much to deal with, but the minion demon came out of nowhere and began beating on her. She tried to her defenses up but, it was no use. She yelled to Alexis in agony for him to help, but he stood there in fear. She believed this was a great acting job on his part.

Sarah began questioning the script. She hadn’t read anywhere that this was going to be that physical of a fight. This actor dressed up in a costume must wasn’t to show Joss something, that’s why he’s trying so hard to make this all look so real. Finally, she was able to block a few attacks, and get in a few of her own. She didn’t mind really hitting the actors because she was told on the set of Buffy to make everything look real, so hitting as hard as she could wasn’t a big deal.

Once she found herself slowly gaining control of the fight, she began hearing all the people who gathered on the set cheering. The crowd had slowly got bigger, then when filming had started. They were yelling, “C’mon Buffy! Just remember! Do it!”

Sarah heard the yells, but paid no attention. All she cared about was making this fight scene look as real as possible. What she didn’t realize was that this fight scene couldn’t get any more real than it was. She didn’t realize that one wrong move and Sarah would never be Sarah or Buffy again.

The momentum started to turn in her favor. Glimpses of Buffy started showing in the attacks on the demon. The minion started noticing those glimpses as well. It remembered the kicks to the body and face; the deadly punches to the same places. The onslaught of all these attacks came quicker and with greater force. Finally, Sarah causes the minion to take steps back in defense. Then she delivers fatal blows, which causes the minion to fall, and struggle to get up. She looks at Wesley and yells, (still in character of course) “Throw me your axe! Now!”

He obliges as the crowd cheers and yells for her to finish it. When she’s about to lay into the head of the minion, it quickly slithers off while saying, “You will die Buffy, actress, whatever you are these days. I will see to it.”

Wesley walks over to Sarah and finishes the scene, “Extraordinary work Buffy.”

Buffy nods in agreement and asks, “Well it could’ve been more extraordinary if Angel were here.”

“Right,” Wesley adds. “He must be pre-occupied at this moment. Here, I’ll take you to him. As they turn their backs on the crowd, getting ready to finish the scene, Wesley quietly says, “Now do you believe me Buffy?”

She doesn’t respond as they walk off the set and listen as Joss yells “Cut,” ending filming for the day.

As Wesley and Buffy walk back on the set, the small crowd begins clapping. Angel walks out and up to Buffy and says, “Welcome back! That was just a glimpse of what’s in store for you this time around. I hope you’re ready.”

“What are you talking about,” Sarah questions? “I’m only taping two episodes. I’m not staying. If I wanted to continue doing a series, then I wouldn’t have ended ‘Buffy.’”

Joss finally chimed in as Angel fumbled around for a response, “Yeah he knows that Sarah. All he meant was, are you ready for tomorrow? It’s going to be something special for you because we are leaving the set and actually going out into the actual heart of L.A. We want to bring a sense of reality to the show. By filming in actual downtown L.A., I believe we can achieve that goal. So be ready for tomorrow evening.”

Joss then turned to the crowd, and told them to be back this evening once the sun goes down. The crowd finally dispersed except for Wesley and Angel.

“Nice try Wesley,” comments Angel.

“I tried Angel,” Wesley began responding. “I completely warned her of what was going to happen. It seemed as if she understood, but maybe I did something wrong.”

“No,” Angel replies. “I sensed that she’s aware there’s something awry, but doesn’t want to admit it. Either she’s afraid to, or she doesn’t care. But, I guarantee that tomorrow, everything will change.”

As Wesley and Angel walk off the set Angel turns around sensing there is something or someone lingering in the rafters, but finally shrugs it off and walks out.

“You’re damn right Angel. I am up here watching over everything. Your senses are correct,” Spike laughs as he talks to himself. “Yes, tomorrow, everything will change. Someone will perish!”
