The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse:

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are described in the last book of the New Testament, called the Book of Revelation of Jesus Christ to Saint John the Evangelist at 6:1-8. The chapter tells of a "'book'/'scroll' in God's right hand that is sealed with seven seals". The Lamb of God/Lion of Judah (Jesus Christ) opens the first four of the seven seals, which summons forth four beings that ride out on white, red, black, and pale horses. Although some interpretations differ, the four riders are commonly seen as symbolizing Conquest, War, Famine and Death, respectively. The Christian apocalyptic vision is that the four horsemen are to set a divine apocalypse upon the world as harbingers of the Last Judgment.  Source: Wikipedia.

Queensland. The channel country and Lake Eyre are all above what is well known as the “Great Artesian Basin.”

The Great Artesian Basin covers an area of the continent of 1.7 million Kilometreand it is said to be 3,000 metre deep. The Great Artesian Basin formed between two-and-a-quarter and sixty-five million years ago.

The water from the basin was recovered by bores drilled into the earth and that water, sometimes at high temperatures, was brought to the surface for human and agricultural use in the parched centre.

Someone may explain if recent heavy rain in the north of the continent and inland has helped replenish depleted stores of water in the basin. There does not appear to be a scientific  consensus on this possibility.

Conquest, War, Famine and Death,

Conquest, the King, of which history records many: Alexander the Great, Caesar, Genghis Khan and Adolph Hitler, to name a few.

Newspapers and television speak of war and the quest for power in Africa and in the middle east. Famine grips the western African nations and insufficient aid flows to other nations. Death is an everyday event from which is is hard to see any escape for so many. Yes, the Four Horsemen are riding! The King is astride the white horse with his bow, War rides the Red Horse swinging his sword, Famine carries the scales that indicate how bread would be weighed during a famine. The Pale Horse is ridden by death. Need more be said?

One-hundred years ago the world was populated by 1.75 Billion people. It is now about 6.8 billion. In the past fifty-years it has increased from 3.0 Billion to 6.8 Billion, over double in fifty years.

An environmentalist might say a rise such as this is unsustainable. Climate change is a reality and has been happening since man appeared on this earth. It is amazing that man has survived this long given the environmentalists cries. More important than the issue of carbon that may not involve the Four Horsemen for many years is the clear and present position. Australia is experiencing disease that was ostensibly wiped out years ago. Do many remember the scourge of HIV and Aids. What about measles, whooping cough and malaria. How many people seek access to our shores, and why? Is Death persecuting them. Is not War (s) a reality (forget the Second World War and the Holocaust.) Famine is advancing and Death reaps a bumper harvest.

Is it not possible the population of the world will reach 15 Billion plus in another hundred years. Can the human race survive that long. Might not the world return to a green land un-ravaged by man after the pale horse has passed?

This article is not meant to frighten children. By all reports, that is already happening in the schools but …

It is said that Ryanair's Chief Executive, Michael O'Leary, (a controversial character in his own right) ripped into 'f...ing eco-warriors,' saying:

“The scientific community has nearly always been wrong in history anyway. In the Middle Ages, they were going to excommunicate Galileo because the entire scientific community said the Earth was flat... I mean, it is absolutely bizarre that the people who can't tell us what the f...ing  weather is next Tuesday can predict with absolute precision what the f...ing global temperatures will be in 100 years' time. It's horseshit.”

Note: Language such as that allegedly used by Mr. O’Leary does not usually appear on these pages.
