| 6/5/2004 | Today was a long day. It started very early. But, we were all ready to head out on the first church trup of the summer, our mission trip to Mexico. We were headed Ft. Davis the first leg of the trip. We arrived there just in time for dinner. Dinner wasn't bad for the small town it was. The Mexican food was our last Tex-Mex taste we would have for a while. Soon after we ate, tremendous storm clouds began to roll in illuminating the sky with great designs made by the lightning. After Tim assigned us our rooms, Jon, Caleb and I had a prayer and headed to bed. Goodnight. |
| 6/6/2004 | After the night in Fort Davis after much rain, we woke up to some nice donuts and breakfast burritos, and then we headed back on the trail to the border. After a 2 hour drive or so, we reached the border and took heed of Tim's 'Border Speech'. At the border, we all entered the main building. Our group had to fill out these forms for Mexico to let us in the country, but there was only one problem. They didn't get enough forms for me, and the border patrol don't like giving out stuff after they have given it. But even after everyone completed their forms, surprisingly enough no one messed up bad enough to get another one. So, I was last and line, but better than hoped, the border patrol man filled mine out for me, even better. After that and the registering of the vans, our group left and headed on down the road where we would eventually stop for sandwiches. Shortly after lunch, we arrived in Chihuahua, Chihuahua. It was a very awesome city of two million plus. Once we traversed through the crazy driving, we reached our hotel and enjoyed unpacking and resting. Later that evening, we departed the hotel and left for dinner at a small restuarant about 15 minutes away from the hotel. They had incredible fajitas as expected along with a couple surprises. Our drink seletion was the normal Mexican drink menu: Coke, Water, and ofcrouse limonada, but we had a couple additions. Carla boldly stepped out and got a milk based drink with some rice and other unknown ingrediants, and Caleb and I got, what the Mexicans called, Jamaican Tea. We quickly found out that with added lime to the tea, it perfected itself. Both were very appetizing and complimented the fajitas well. Later that night, now back at the hotel, we concluded our night, like every Mexico night, with a devo. Much singing and praising God took place. At the end of our day, John, Caleb and I trudged up to our wonderful, comfortable room and jumped on the empty, neatly made beds. Only to find out that our matress must be made of rock. After the before bed rituals, we watched ESPN in English until we had enough and fell asleep. Goodnight. |
| 6/7/2004 | Well here it was, the first day of work in Mexico. Getting up at an early 5:45, after our room's round of showers, we headed to one of the best breakfast I have had, in Mexico atleast. Breakfast included ham and eggs, beans, an interesting breakfast side, and hashbrowns. After being fully energized by breakfast, I received a big hug from Carla, and shortly after we were on our way to the job site. Before we arrived we knew we were laying tile on the bottom floor and bricking, with cinder block, the second story walls.... |

| 6/19/2004 | Saturday, what a nice and pleasant and relaxing day. After the late night last night, I enjoyed the morning of sleep until 10:30 or so. Got up, only to find Tim still playing Warcraft in our room, and I went straight to the donuts. Aftering satisfying the taste buds, I headed to Carla and Lindsey's room to say good morning, only to wake them up. But the forgiving people they are, they didn't mind to much. Around one o clock, we loaded up the vans and headed to Mr. Gaddy's. We went there to celebrate Noah's birthday, although his birthday is this Teusday, but if we waited we couldn't go to Mr. Gaddy's since it is during Kadesh. After much jalepeno pepperoni pizza, we exited the eating room to the game room. Compiling all of our tickets we had won on our games, we had just enough to buy Noah a couple birthday gifts, as we do every year. He got a full-size blow up chair, a bow and arrow set, and a little half-sphere popper thing that pops up when you turn it inside-out. When we returned to the Edward's dorm, a nice Sponge Bob cake was waiting for us, along with several gifts for Noah, including: a Spider Man motorcycle with Spider Man, Sting from LOTR, a book, some tinkertoys, and a card. Once the party ended we all kind of went or seperate ways to either a nap, or computer game, or watching tv, except for a couple crazy kids, Carla and I. Carla has this thing with trying to beat me up. She must get it from having two older brothers. So after wrestling with Carla for several minutes we did some more random computer stuff, which might have included: chatting, sending an email of Kadesh people coming to my parents since they are driving the van up tomorow, downloading some gameplay trailers for World of Warcraft etc. As every year I have come early to help with Mpulse or Learning to Lead, the Colorado people showed up and we had an incredible praise time of just straight singing. Some of the most passionate singing i have heard in a long time. The Colorado people then caught wind of some bad news of 3 friends killed in a car wreck and one in critical condition. Changing their dynamics for the week, it can only make them stronger through Kadesh. After maybe a game of Warcraft and saying goodnight to Carla, I was too lazy to brush my teeth, but i did wear my retainer, and headed straight to bed. Goodnight. |
| 6/20/2004 | Ahh What a busy day! Begining at 7:45, but finally getting out of the bed and into the shower by 8:15, trying to be on the van by 8:30, we were off to church. We went to Southern Hills Coc, where Rachel is interning for the summer. Church was great. They have an appealing modern style, a top prospect for my home church next year, followed by a well taught class. After church, we headed, for my first time, to Fazoli's. Through word of mouth, mainly from Kevan, it was supposedly the best place to eat in the world. But hey, it wasn's bad at all. I may have to make a few stops every once in a while. Wow, Kadesh started today and i havn't even begun on that. Well, first off me and Caleb rounded up our mess of a room and transfered it to make another mess of a room in another dorm room for Kadesh. After that, we headed off to the Hilton Room where we had a little introduction by Bob. Unfortunately, we had to stall for about 30 minutes to wait on our dinner to be finished cooking. After we ate, we proceeded to the Hart Auditorium, in the Bible Building, to watch les? Miserables?. What a great movie, especially after already seeing the musical on a rotating stage. When the movie ended, we had an incredible praise time. I'll say this more than once, Kadesh is one of the best praise time places in the world. Singing is amazing. Rick then had a little spill on the week about why we are at Kadesh. After that, we were divided into groups. Group 20 was that group i was named to. A great group including: Tracy, Stacie, Christian, Joe, Laura, Brad, Sam.... ahh a few more. I will get the rest down tommorow, hopefully. We talked as a group to break the ice, even though it was already nearly depleted before we even said a word. Then we prayed, and we headed back to our respective dorms. In the dorms, our head counselor Chris had some procedures and rules to discuss with the guys, and then we all headed to our counselor's room, Zack, for some time with the guys on our hall. Wrote an email to Carla, and got ready for bed. Goodnight. |
