Interlude
Moaning with terror I staggered out the basement door. Where did he go? Why did he leave? Is he coming back? Each step that I took towards the stairs my vision would start to alleviate, all my senses were dulling. I have to get out of here! At a time like this, patience was not a virtue. My head, filled with hot blood and the memories of lost hopes I fell to the floor. Crying. Pain? suffering. Ahhh!!! I can?t stand it anymore! ? Pull yourself together woman! . Okay? 10 9 8 7 6 5 4. Uhh. What was that? Even though I couldn?t hear, I could make out the shudder below my feet. It was as if the ground beneath me was going to open up and consume my body. Before I knew it I was thrown in the air and heaved over a man's shoulder. He started running. Stronger and faster. He just kept on moving. What strength and stamina this man must have. Who is he? I was still slung like a rag doll on his shoulder, flopping to and fro, as he sped through field after field. I pulled my hand up to help balance myself so my head wasn?t sloshing around so much. I was beginning to get a sharp throbbing in my forehead. It felt like my brain was being twisted and gnarled by a pack of wild wolves. Finally he stopped. He just stood there. Not moving a muscle. Is he trying to listen for something? What is he doing? He all of a sudden shuddered and exhaled. As if he was relieved. He grabbed me and gently laid me down in a clearing, encircled by a jumble of tall grasses. I still could hardly see anything. I was wavering from everything that just came to pass. I heard a voice. Soft, but deep. A sort of sweetness filled with a rough masculinity filled my mind. ?aa?arree? are you all right?? he whispered. Oh how I wanted to break down crying. Sniffling was all I could allow myself to do. Am I all right!? WTF!? How would I be all right? I can?t move my body. I can?t see, barley hear anything, and I keep talking to myself in here! I was almost killed and he wants to know if I?m all right! ?Yeah, I?m fine.? I mumbled. ?Good.? He said with a slight tilting of his head. It felt as if he was surprised by my response. But he said nothing more. He got up and walked away. ?Hey! Wait! Where are you going!?? I screamed. Nothing. No response. No way! He can?t just leave me here! I?m like a powerless little puppy in this state. He must know what happened.... He wouldn?t have saved me. Ch. 1 I went on a trip to visit my cousin in Paris. I knew exactly what I was going to do every minute I was there. I?m not the kind of girl who would just leave everything up to fate and see where I?d end up a month from then. I had always known that Id be a seeker of dreams. But I had no idea what I was putting myself into. When I arrived in Paris I knew I wanted to stay in spectacular hotel. This experience was going to be one of my best. I?d never been out of Denver so I was sure I had to make this the best time I?d ever have. When I got off the airplane I was thrilled that my schedule was going good so far. Bingo! I had predicted down to the very minute when I thought I would arrive. Wow. It sure was packed in here. I was told that there would be a lot of people in Paris. But just this airport made Denver look like an old haunted town. Lights were blaring into my eyes. Drawing me closer to the fascinating colors. The billboards were beautiful. Well for a billboard. They soared above my head like eagles. All of a sudden a hand reached out from one of them. Light tan. Soft. I could almost smell a sweetness of peach. Although it looked delicate I screamed. WTH is going on in this place!? Aha ha. I must have been a funny site to see. People stopped and looked at me as if I had come from some deserted land. Coming back into my so-called land of sanity I reached out and touched the hand. Only I didn?t touch it. I felt my flesh dive right through it. A cold chill ran down my body like I had just been thrown in a pool of ice. A girl dressed in black high heels, a short skimpy pink dress, and wearing a short mop like hair cut was walking towards me. I wasn?t sure what to do. Should I stand there and wait for her? I mean what if she wasnt really coming to me? There are millions of people here. She could be meeting a friend that?s in the same eye range as me. I knew I was wrong when I heard her call my name. ?Elexi!? she said. Okay. Do I know this person? ?Uhh.... Yea. Hi, Do I know you? I stuttered. Oh goodness. I forgot. You were gone so long I didn?t remember. She laughed. I have no idea what this woman is talking about! Right? I finally managed to squeak. I had no idea where this was leading. She had started telling me about how she was my best friend a couple ?E? years back. We were on a assignment to Rome to save her so called lover Henry from whatever it is she said. I didn?t want to have anything to do with this. This lady was obviously messed in the head. Um. Excuse me. I just got in from Denver. I have no idea what you are talking about. So Im pretty sure you have the wrong person. Sorry to bust your bubble. But I?ve got to get going! I said and walked off. Helen strolled into the lobby as if she was a woman of sophistication. Josh knew she was nothing more than a low dirty hoe but in a place like this it didn?t matter. He knew he wanted her and that?s all that was on his mind. He watched her as her slick tan legs danced over the tiles while her hips swayed to the music of her feminine tune. She walked straight up to him smiling into his face. A warmth washed over his body as she reached for his hand. He felt her smooth skin glide across his fingertips caressing his palm. Mission complete! she smirked. Good job. Ready for your next he said in a professional tone hiding the teen behavior he knew was buried deep inside him, just waiting to escape. Oh you know it. She laughed. Great. We need to follow her to the hotel Waldorf Madeleine. Youll need to stand at the door slipping a tracking device into her purse. he stammered. Alright. Now then. She won?t arrive for another hour or so. In the meantime would you like to accompany me to dinner? I?d love to? She smiled. When I arrived at my hotel I was overwhelmed with all the people bustling around the lobby. There were people of all races. Some didn?t even look natural. The air here felt too clean to be real and yet it felt like paradise in some unimaginable way. I hurried to the front counter. Bumping into people as I passed. Some would give me welcoming smiles, but then some would grunt rudely and continue on their way. It seemed strange how everyone was so different. Like they were all variants from different worlds. The man at the counter looked young. He was tall. About 62. He had light brown hair, which was very professionally cut, and stylish sunglasses rested atop his head. I also noticed that he had the deepest sea blue eyes I had ever seen. Wow! Love at first sight! Okay maybe not. He wore a gray shirt that fit tightly over his well-toned body and Kaki pants. He was standing as straight as he could. It looked a little funny but I managed to hold my giggles in. I smiled as sweetly as I could when I walked up to him. I was only 3 feet away when he winked at me. Oh I couldn?t resist. I burst into a few short but loud laughs, which made a huge smile, spread across his face. He looked so cute I just couldn?t stand myself. Hi there? he said with a sexy laugh. Now that?s a voice I want to wake up to in the morning!Hey I said giving him a slight smirk. I need a room. The best youve got. He looked down and started to gaze through a computer. We have a royal sweet left. Would that be good enough for you Miss?? He said. Yes I think that might do. I mumbled as I thought about it for a second. Your name Miss? Elexi Carpa. Oh, well actually we already have a room reserved for you!? You do? I stammered. Yes. It seems a room has already been paid for you. It?s the penthouse.? Sweet!!! You mean its all done and paid for? I just have to go on up there?? I squeaked with excitement. Yes Mam.? Wait. Who paid for it?? I?m sorry Miss. I?m not sure. I might be able to find out later.? Hmm?. Okay. Well I?ll take it then.? He handed me a key and helped me take my bags up to my room. What a gentleman. His nametag said ?Josh?. ?Well Josh thank you for bringing my bags up for me.? I smiled. ?No problem Miss? he winked and walked off. Hmmm?. I wonder who paid for me room. Oh well. Josh When I left the hotel, to check on Elexi, I went straight home. I pushed open the door that was blocked by huge piles of garbage lying all over the floor. ?Ahh, what a mess!? I screamed. I stumbled through the crowded living room picking up my clothes and throwing them in a big pile. I really need to get off my ass and clean this house! When I walked into my room I almost landed face first into a week old, half eaten pizza. ?Damn, I?m going to kill myself one of these days.? I got on the net and started looking up info on ?Elexi Carpa?. I knew I had seen her somewhere. That?s why I had to follow her, or well have Steph do it for me. When I hacked into the mainstream computers I did a full head to toe search for anyone by the name of Elexi. 57,486 matches! Damn, this is going to be harder than I thought. A second here on Paradise station can?t be spared. This search would take me well over an hour, to go through each file and look the codes over. 1080000 seconds is too much time to let go of. Elexi can?t be that important right? Okay. So the instant I saw her my mind flashed images of variants I?ve only seen pictures of, and banks of files that are only stored on the original earth computers. I felt like I was sent back into the days when the world used to make sense. When the humans made towers to the sky they were triumphant. They wanted to go further. After their first space station was built people began spending thousand of dollars to live in the immature space dwellings. As the story goes Mankind took Gods machines and split the skies asunder, and sent into God?s heavens his ships and his machines and all the tainted things of Earth. He set foot upon the planets, which God had not meant for his use. He painted he heavens black with his pride and his arrogance. He angered the Lord in those and a thousand ways, until the Lord spoke unto him and said? Behold, I gave you Babel, and you did not heed My warning, You built a Tower unto the skies and I divided you into myriad peoples, that you might know shame and be humble before your God. Now you construct something greater than a tower, that intrudes into My very heavens. Now I shall divide you again, but not merely by speech, nor by color. Now you shall be not one species but many, and each shall hate and fear the other, and the seed that is shared between them shall be desolate. So shall you be divided until the end of time, that you may remember My wrath. And he set the mark of Hausman into their flesh, so that all might know their shame. And those who were loyal to His name, who, remained upon Earth, were unscathed by his curse, and might bear children as they chose, for such was the indication of His favor.
