MADISON JETS FOOTBALL

The Madison Jets lost a tough game in overtime to the Jefferson Cardinals 8-0 on Sunday, Ocober 12th that eliminated the Jets from the playoffs. This was a very tough game and both teams played defense extremely well, shutting down each other's offensive weapons throughout regulation. By the way, Steven made an outstanding play to knock down what would have been a touchdown pass in the first half to keep it 0-0 at halftime. Nice play Steven! The defense pretty much shut down the Cardinals main offensive weapon, holding #23 to minimal yards, although he did manage to score in overtime on a short run. Additionally, the defense appeared to come real close to recording a safety in regulation play that would have given the Jets a 2-0 victory because the game never would have gone to overtime. However, the refs decided to rule that it was not a safety and the game preceded accordingly. A number of guys stepped up in this game and made big plays on defense. Although I do not have the exact numbers at this time, the following numbers may be close. Nick, starting in place of Mark, recorded 5 tackles from the safety position including 1 of the bone-crunching variety. Billy was as dominant as ever, recording 10-12 tackles - INCREDIBLE! James and Wesley, starting for only the second time this year, combined for nearly 10 tackles from their defensive tackle positions. These two guys earned these starting positions by playing very impressively when they did play, and by working hard in practice. James and Wes are very good thinkers when it comes to making plays. A very commendable performance by Adam, Tyler, Austin, and John as well. These guys, along with TJ and Corey, combined to shut down the explosive outside running game that usually resulted in multiple 60-yard scoring runs in each of the games I watched them play this year. And Chad, middle linebacker extraordinaire, continued to do it all as he covered the entire field very well and recorded 8-10 tackles on inside runs and outside runs. Remember guys, you are still the team that finished in first place and that can never be taken from you! Your record this year is still 5-1-1 with only 1 TD allowed by the defense, and that was in an overtime game that we could have won 2-0 if the ref ruled in our favor on the safety call. And all of this after the Jets finished in last place last year. An oustanding effort by everyone this year! Thanks for letting me enjoy this season with all of you - it was fun!
