maintain a dignified, sane psyche

turn into assholes. fighting with your friends helps
prevent this

SirdylanBob: if you are white and grew up in the
ninetys, fight club is your catcher in the rye. sometimes
it is even if you dont fit that category, but if you do, its a
whole lot more likely

never having seen it, you think it's just about beating
each other up. thats part of it. but moreover, there's a
philosophy to be had.

SirdylanBob: fight club, by one Chuck Palahniuk, quite
possibly the greatest author to hit fiction in 10 years
SirdylanBob: what the book comes down to is our
world. a world of style of substance, a world of trends,
movie stars, really catchy songs, a feeling of freedom,
sort of, a world of the things you own owning you, it's
about how on a long enough time line, the survival rate
for everyone drops to zero. it's about hitting bottom,
loosing everything, because once you do, you will know
who you are and you will be free to do anything.

SirdylanBob: it's about that void in your life. i don't
mean to be rude, but i know it's there. the void. you
look at it, and it's big, and it's black, and it's scary. so
you run away. you find things to fill it with, school, work,
the gym, whatever. everyone does it. so what happens
when you wake up tomorrow and embrace the void?
look into the void until you find yourself, because you
have nothing else left.

SirdylanBob: hitting bottom is not a weekend retreat, it
is not easy, and it doesn't come fast, or by accident.
you have to give up on everything and everyone. you
have to do what scares you, accept that "You are not
special. You are not a
beautiful or unique snowflake. You are
the same decaying organic matter as
everything else."

scared, than being angry
SirdylanBob: when it happens, you'll know it
Ever4Ali14: so what do I do when I've hit bottom
SirdylanBob: whatever you want
SirdylanBob: that's the glory of it. you know what you
want, and you do it, because nothing else matters.
SirdylanBob: i hit bottom once, i think. maybe i'm
fooling myself. but i came away from it with two things:
i want to love, and i don't want to go to collage.
SirdylanBob: after you hit bottom, you do what makes
you feel alive
SirdylanBob: feel free to stop me at any point, before i
really get on a roll

SirdylanBob: nothing to do in what sense? no good
movies to see? no concert in town? or in the sense
that every idea that anyone you know can expand upon
has been expanded upon, everything has been said and
you still feel that void inside of you, nothing to do in that
nothing can be done to help you feel
Ever4Ali14: in the sense that all my friends are bad
friends and they'er bitches
Ever4Ali14: and so I'm left here with nothing to do...as
unphilosophical as it gets
SirdylanBob: well then, thats a step towards hitting
bottom, provided tomorrow you don't end up
rationalizing and going "well, they're fun, or nice, i
guess....and i might as well."
SirdylanBob: it's about giving up on them

saying, it's that i have pointed to the void, and screamed
"look at it" If you go now, just remember what i said,
that i'm not going anywhere, and tell me that you'll do
something about the void.

things that you know lead back to where you are. you
know how how to break the cycle. ask yourself, "what
am i the most afraid to do?"
