Discover the Land the Glaciers Forgot!
Imagine a land that the glaciers overlooked.  Can you see the wandering river, going its whimsical way, first trotting along in one direction, then shruggng its shoulders and galloping off in another, chasing its own tail back and forth down thru the valley of the Kickapoo?  Can you envision the laughing hills, peering over their shoulders and between their fingers as the river tickles their toes and then kicks spray in their faces as they reach down to catch it?  Can you imagine?

Lose your self for awhile.  Its easy to forget where you come from, once you find the Valley.  Somehow, it doesn't matter as much as the here and now of the soaring ridges and shadow pooled hollows.  Somehow, when you hear the meadowlark pour out its heartsong and watch the moon make faces at you all night, only here and only now matters, at least for a time.

Find yourself renewed and revitalized.  Experience the rhythms of the nomad river.  Launch yourself in our silver canoes and watch the world go by at a pace made for exploring.  Glide beneath willow, ash and elder.  Listen for thieir breathy voices overhead as they lean into each other and share secrets from times gone past.....and maybe gossip about who that is slipping quietly past them at their feet. Feel the hurry and stress slip noiselessly from your shoulders and swirl, like the hobo leaves, down the stream in an eddy of foam.  Take your time.

Retreat to golden wood cabins for the night.  Settle yourself down.   Let a fragrant campfire work its magic on your heart.    Then dream the night away in a handcrafted double bed in the downstairs alcove bedroom and open your eyes to the sun gilding the rafters above you;  bed down on the porch, so you can watch the morning fog tickling the sun's nose, or wend your way up to the loft and hope to catch a glimpse of the whitetail deer at dusk or dawn as they glide down to the creek to drink.   A lovely way to end the day...and begin.

Where the hawks dance with rainbows, the sky's mother-of-pearled.

We discovered the Kickapoo Valley by serendipity....You can just follow your instincts.  Nestled in the folds of the ancient Ocooch Mountains in southwest Wisconsin, Crooked River Resort is your base for forays out and about, or can be your destination.  There is much to say for doing nothing...to just be, to shake those have-to's and gotta's right out the door, like you shake a rug.  Invite in only those dreams you want to spend the night or weekend with....and if those oughts's still scratch at the door too much, then you can take yourself to the meadow and lose yourself under the stars.

So Briefly I'll Linger
I can't tarry long by this wood by the wayside
I'll never go home if I stay here too long
Entranced by the mystery of wind in the treetops
And music of singers hiding all but their song.

At Evening Time
At evening time I meet the stars halfway
I climb up on the highest thing I can
Aa old friends do, we haven't much to say
Content to have each other close at hand

We sit in awe of all the passing hours
And muse upon the mysteries of flight
We wonder why the days grow all the flowers
And stars become the blossoms of the night.
