Japanese Culture

 

After World War II, Japan has grown its economy as you know Japanese car industry became one of the most successful car industry in the world. Yet, how many of you know what Japanese culture is or even what Japanese high school students do on daily life? I guess many of you don’t really know what Japanese culture is. This website is for you to learn and understand Japanese culture and relationship between Japanese culture and other cultures.

 

Japanese education system

 

Most Japanese kids start getting education from kindergartens. After they graduate from kindergartens, they start going to elementary schools.  They go to elementary school for six years. After they graduate from elementary school, they go to Jr. high for three years. Before they enter high school, they have to take an entrance exam. Therefore, they go to “cram school” to get ready for the exam.

Japanese diet

 

Japanese diet has changed. Before World War II, most Japanese had eaten only traditional Japanese food, and only wealthy people could eat foreign food. However, after World War II, American culture and many other cultures came to Japan, and as Japanese economy went up, Japanese began to realize that they had some leeway in what they could eat.

Then finally, American food boom reached a peak in 1980s. Macdonald’s opened restaurants in Tokyo and it became very popular.

In ‘90s, Japanese realized how healthy Japanese food is, and it became popular again.
