Born in 1954, the Mercedes 300SL achieved instant recognition as probably the most beautiful sports car of it's time. It was the German firms first dabble into a racing car since World War Two, showing they still had the goods to make a winning motor. In 1952, this superb sports car won the Le Mans 24hr and it also won the Carrera Panamericana competition two years earlier.
