PROGRAM OF ACTIVITIES
Activities will originate at Premier Lodge, Cabot Road, Poole.

Friday, August 6
2:00    pm        registration
            self guided tour of Poole waterfront
6:00-9:00 pm         meet in hotel lobby   
          Fish and Chips / Meet and Greet on the pier at Poole Harbour,
          hosted by the Wessex-Newfoundland Society
            Welcome by Alan Perry, Co-chair

Saturday, August 7

8:00 am        registration
            breakfast
9:00 am        meet in hotel lobby
            bus tour of South Dorset with Alan Perry

12:00 noon        lunch
            bus tour continues through Thomas Hardy country and numerous historic sites and beauty spots

 5:00 pm        bus returns to hotel
            free time

 6:00 pm        dinner and social evening
      to            - celebration of John Bemister’s 257th birthday
10:00 pm        - guest speaker

Sunday, August 8

 8:00 am         breakfast
9:00 am        meet in hotel lobby
            Bemister oriented bus tour

10:30 am        church service at Wimborne Minster (where John and Mary Bemister were married in 1785) followed by tour of the Minster - a lovely Norman abbey with a chain library and wonderful old clock.

12:30 pm        lunch at Lamb’s Green in Corfe Mullen - where William and Edward grew up - one of several parcels of land farmed by John and Mary Bemister

 3:00 pm        Special service at St. Hubert’s Parish Church, Corfe-Mullen  and graveside remembrance in honour of John and Mary Bemister.

 5:00 pm         return to
 6:00 pm         farewell dinner
            end of reunion          
        

Highlights

    *     Enjoyed the fellowship of dozens of distant cousins from all parts of North America

     *    Took a bus tour of South Dorset - through Thomas Hardy country, through an incredibly beautiful part of England that nurtured our ancestors, through a past steeped in history and romance

     *    Attended a church service at Wimborne Minster where John and Mary Bemister were married in 1785.

     *     Had lunch at Lamb’s Green Farm where William and Edward Bemister grew up. 

     *     Paid our respects to the direct ancestors of our North American Bemisters at their graveside, at St. Hubert’s Parish Church in Corfe Mullen.

     *     Explored Poole Harbour - where William and Edward Bemister boarded vessels bound for Carbonear, Newfoundland, two centuries ago.

     *    Celebrated the 257th birthday of John Bemister of Corfe Mullen.

    *
    Enjoyed a private tour of Minterne House hosted by Lord and Lady Digby. 

    *    Enjoyed a private tour of a restored wanterfront merchant house in Poole.

    *    Hosted to a tour of a heritage courtyard garden and meal with members of the Newfoundland Wessex Society.

    *    Great times and meals with our local hosts Dr. Alan Perry and his wife Jill.
