Wimborne Minster (where John and Mary Bemister were married in 1785)
followed by tour of the Minster - a lovely Norman abbey with a chain
library and wonderful old clock.
pm lunch at Lamb’s Green in
Corfe Mullen - where William and Edward grew up - one of several
parcels of land farmed by John and Mary Bemister
pm Special service at
St. Hubert’s Parish Church, Corfe-Mullen and graveside
remembrance in honour of John and Mary Bemister.
* Enjoyed the fellowship
of dozens of distant cousins
from all parts of North America
* Took a bus tour of South
Dorset - through Thomas Hardy country, through an
incredibly beautiful part of England
that nurtured our ancestors, through a past steeped in
* Attended a church service at
Wimborne Minster where John and Mary Bemister
married in 1785.
* Had lunch at Lamb’s
Green Farm where William and Edward Bemister grew up.
* Paid our respects to
the direct ancestors of our North American Bemisters at
their graveside, at St. Hubert’s Parish Church in Corfe Mullen.
* Explored Poole Harbour - where William
vessels bound for Carbonear, Newfoundland, two centuries ago.
* Celebrated the 257th
birthday of John Bemister of Corfe Mullen.
Enjoyed a private tour of Minterne
House hosted by Lord and Lady Digby.
* Enjoyed a private tour of a restored wanterfront
merchant house in Poole.
* Hosted to a tour of a heritage courtyard garden and meal
with members of the Newfoundland Wessex Society.
* Great times and meals with our local hosts Dr. Alan
Perry and his wife Jill.
