Why did we shed fewer tears for slain teen Rene?

http://www.angelfire.com/oz/alphamaster/TheStar-Rene.mht

An entire city of people flooded Cecelia's funeral, and yet, only a few close family and friends paid their respects to Rene. While one girl's tragic story captured the hearts of so many people, another boy's fate is unknown to most. Taking it a bit further, compared to the attention brought towards the little girl, children all over the world are dying from hunger, harsh environments and wars. Perhaps we should consider all those people and put things in perspective - not just focus on one incident and not the bigger picture.
