| ABOUT THE
INSTRUCTORS:
A.C. and Cathy have been dancing
and competing together for the last decade. They began their
"dance career" in group-class in Fayetteville, NC.
They were "coerced" (read: forced) to enter a shag
contest in order to have enough couples to sanction the event.
After vowing to never be caught
so unaware again, they gave contests another try on a more
prepared level. They began paying closer attention in group-class,
taking some private lessons and approached the dance a little
more seriously. Everything SHAG became an obsession - in a
good way. Proper technique was learned with an emphasis on
BASICS
..and much money was spent!!
Competing is not for everyone, but
it opened doors to travel, preparation, friendships, fun,
memories and a respect for the shag and its people and history.
A.C. and Cathy support their local
shag clubs and have served two terms on the Board of Directors
of the Competitive Shagger's Association (CSA). During the
years 2001-2002 A. C. served as the first President to be
elected for two consecutive years in that organization.
They have competed, judged, and
conducted workshops from Richmond to Atlanta. Sharing and
promoting the shag has become second nature. The dance "shag"
is certainly a regional and cultural experience, but it is
fast becoming international thru efforts of many dancers committed
to keeping the dance alive.
In their other life, Dr. A. C. and
Cathy have a busy dental practice in Dunn, NC where shag music
can be heard coming from treatment rooms.
