Troop 318, Announcements, Monday, May 15th, 2006

1. Upcoming Mondays:

2.Jamboree On The Trail 2006 (JOTT 2006).
Troop 318 participated in the ninth annual JOTT – JOTT 2006, on Saturday, May 13th. Conducted a five-mile hike with backpacks to qualify for both the Second Class and Camping merit badge requirements.

3. Court of Honor, Sunday May 21st.
The troop will hold its next troop-level Court of Honor on Sunday, May 21st at 4 PM. Location will be at Mother of God School in the grassy area near the troop shed. The Troop Committee will provide hamburger and hot dogs, buns, condiments and utensils. Families B-H bring a side dish, I – M brings soft drinks, N- Y desserts. All should bring camping chairs and sunscreen. The troop will set-up the pop-up tents. We also have 5-gallon drinks dispensers for Gatorade or other flavored drinks. I need a few families to volunteer to arrive around 3:30 to set-up and a brave soul to cook (I heard that Kevin Brady is a Grillmaster!!!!)

4. Troop-level Junior Leader Training for Scouts.
Saturday, June 3rd. Mark your calendars. This is a mandatory training event for all newly elected Scout leaders. Optional for all others in the troop. Mr. Castello will host the event at his house. The intent is to meet, train, and bond. Will conduct the annual troop-level Long Range Planning Session for 2006-07 on Saturday.

5. Assateque Island Camping Trip, June 16th to 18th.
The troop will be going to Assateque Island for a unique camping trip. Plan on meeting at Mother of God school on Friday, June 16th at 4:30 PM. Join us and camp on sand dunes with the wild ponies, canoe on the bay, hike the inland trails and feast on an Atlantic Luau with a large open bonfire on the beach. We went two years ago and had a blast. Come with us, but bring your sunscreen and a hat. Of course, we will need drivers for this trip. If you want to go along please contact the Scoutmaster, Mr. Castello.

6. Camp Rodney, July 2nd to 9th.

Troop meetings between now and July will include planning sessions with each Scout to determine what activities and merit badges they wish to pursue at camp.

7. Troop 318 Swim Party, July 22nd.
Plan on a Family get-together at Mr. & Mrs. Castello’s home on Saturday, July 22nd. This will be organized around their pool, swimming, fun, games, and some chow. Be there or be square. (Note: All veterans of SeaBase are to wear a Hawaiian shirt. All others dress as you wish.)br>
8. Impeesa (National Youth Leader Training).
Impeesa is a week-long experience designed to train the participant in team building and leadership in an outdoor long-term camping setting, calling on the use of First Class rank Scoutcraft skills. The course is conducted by a staff of volunteer Scouts and Scouters selected by the NCAC Youth Leader Training Committee and will have completed over six months of preparation by the start of the course. The purpose of Impeesa is to support, not replace, the Scoutmaster's role in the training of youth leaders. Troop 318 has had six Scouts attend Impeesa in the last four years.

9. Merit Badge Information. For Scouts pursuing a merit badge recommend you go to: http://www.meritbadge.com/home.htm At this site print out the merit badge requirements and worksheets. Each worksheet is designed for the individual merit badge. The worksheet helps completing merit badge requirements.

10.Boy Scout Leader Youth Protection Training.
We all recognize our responsibility as parents and as adult leaders (Scouters). That includes understanding and living by the rules of Scouting designed to protect our Scouts and our Scouters. Recommend that all Scouters and interested parents take Cub Scout/Scout Youth Protection Training (YPT) online. Do so on the NCAC website - http://www.boyscouts-ncac.org/pages/71_youth_protection.cfm If you use this link council has a record of your taking the training. If you use a non-Council site please pass the Scoutmaster the Certification of Completion and he will forward to district and on to council.
