Lately, cartoons have become somewhat adult orientated, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy are included in this remark. Although I have to admit, I do enjoy this show: with its Jamaican speaking grim reaper; Mandy with her spiked blonde hair and Billy, the brainless moron, make this show one which is very unique.

Although, like I said, I do enjoy the show to the point where I laugh out loud, I would like to point out one episode in particular, that brought tears to my eyes. The Brownie episode: perhaps I should share an overview or general summary so you will better understand my point.

The episode begins innocently enough with Billy playing a video game: Pat the Baker, to be exact. Mandy becomes annoyed by Billy’s complete disconnection with life and breaks the game to play one of her own (consisting of mutilating the president.) So Billy gets the bright idea to go make brownies, obviously inspired by the Pat the Baker game. He sets out, in the process to make these homemade treats. He makes the batter, just like Pat, and finds that he needs salt(?), I have to note here, that no brownies that I have ever made needed salt. But that doesn't seem to be the point, does it? Billy needs salt and may the world end if he doesn’t find some, in his search he finds Evil Powder. What Evil Powder is exactly, I'm not sure, but in this episode it must be the equivalent to pot, yep, in a children's cartoon.

While the “special” brownies cook, the smell begins wafting though the house and the rest of the neighborhood for that matter. Well, Grim, the children babysitter, smells them and begins to act as if he’s had an euphoric experience. Let me note, Grim is a Skeleton, a skeleton who SMELLED the brownies cooking. Mandy also smells the interesting scent, and comes to investigate, she claims them as “stinky brownies” and throws them in the trash. This breaks Grim’s heart, does he have a heart? But he really wants these brownies, so he sneaks out to the trash can, and is faced with a dilemma, where can he hide his precious brownies? Oh of course, he just pops his skeletal head off his shoulders, and sticks the brownies in his cranium. The prefect hiding place, no one will notice the crumbs falling out of his empty eye sockets. Why do I even ask these questions?

During the brownies fiasco, like I mentioned earlier, the smell has wafted through the neighborhood (in the cartoon this is signified by green squiggles that take over your television screen...run, there going to get you aghh!!) Ahem..yeah, and these magical green blobs bring back zombies, yes zombies. The smell of the brownies brings the dead back to life..mawh ha ha ha!!! So all of these dead rotting corpuses take over the streets on there way to find the brownies. ( I know, it’s both confusing and stupid) The zombies crowd around the house, and who else would they send but Billy, the most mentally challenged idiot on the imaginary planet to fight them. Grim made the remake, “Why do I have to fight dem, I already put dem down once man.” *note: the Jamaican accent. Billy is sent with his trusty weapon, a stick to fight the worlds zombies, we know how this will end. But wait, a surprise character jumps into the scene, a chainsaw/machine gun/ grenade packing video game character. Maybe they will live to see another day. Let me point this out, EVERYTHING that was dead has come back to life, even the local fryers at the grocery battle over the brownies. One of the chickens even grabs a grenade in hopes of locking drumsticks around those brownies. Billy and this mystical character Hoss Delgado duel the zombies, and even take the upper hand, until they (being all the zombies) bond together to make one giant, evil rotting monster, intent on getting those brownies. After this unexpected attack Hoss has no choice but to surrender Grim, he and Grim duke it out in a star wars-ish battle scene, light sabers and all. Grim, unfortunately losses his head , literally, and is tossed to the zombie monster. The monster catches it, and makes a few erotic moaning sounds, with the word “brownie” thrown in there a couple of times. Then takes it’s tongue and licks the brownies out of Grim’s head. (This scene is even more gross to watch on the tube.) Grim’s heart is broken, no more essence of evil brownies, but the dead have been put back to rest. An incomplete ending to a dysfunctional life.
