This tribute stuff started when Avory and I thought it would be a fun challenge to attempt instro versions of Velvet Underground songs. Then came The Beatles. Next The Dave Clark Five. These are the bands we listen to and the bands we learned from. The Beatles showed us possibilities. Every album they released broke new ground. They taught us to take chances and explore. They taught us a whole lot more but we'll keep this brief.
The Dave Clark Five taught us how powerful melodic music could just plain make you feel, well, glad all over. (I tried to resist that one but just couldn't.)
The Velvet Underground showed us musical guts, to play what you feel and not to stick to rigid forms. They challenged their listeners and made music that demanded attention.
Of course, there are more bands we hold dear, so stay tuned....
