Have you ever wondered what it would be like to listen to radio the way people did during the golden age of network radio? You know sitting down and spinning the radio dial and listen to hour and hour of classic radio series each week? That's what thousands of people are doing each week, listening to REN the radio entertainment network. REN does for radio what Nick at Nite and TV Land do  for television. REN purpose is to provide free of charge a weekly schedule of old time radio for the blind and physically handicapped to use as a source of audio entertainment that serves as a substitute for television.

Because old time radio was written for sound alone, we believe that old radio programs are the best form of entertainment for the blind or with poor vision. This is the idea behind the Radio Entertainment Network. REN is the effort of old time radio collectors that supplies a weekly format of old time radio series for radio reading service stations to broadcast free of charge.

Radio reading service stations are on the air to provide news and information and entertainment for people who are blind, visually impaired or have other difficulties reading. These radio reading service stations are on the air in most parts of the United States. They typically broadcast on your local public noncommercial FM and TV stations. Many of these broadcasts are only available with special receivers that tune a encoded signal. However, REN broadcasts are also available on many audio channels on public access stations and on the Internet. Currently REN supplies ten hours a week of old time radio drama.

History of the Radio Entertainment Network

Jim Dolan has been active in Seattle radio for over twenty five years. Along with Kevin Clark, he has operated Creative Media Concepts, a recording studio specializing in radio production. Dolan and Clark started the Radio Entertainment Network in 1995 as a free program for radio reading services. Approximately thirty radio reading services use REN programming to provide audio only entertainment programming serving the blind and visually impaired listerners.
