THE TWO TOWERS

Legolas manages to kill many Orcs but the death of Boromir also strikes him hard. He and Aragorn and Gimli trudge ahead however in an attempt to rescue Merry and Pippin from the Urak-Hai.
After days of treking over the Plains of Rohan, the group comes across a pendant or clasp that belonged on Pippin's cloak and they know they're on the right track.
The three meet up with Eomer and the Rohirrim and learn that their friends may in truth be dead. After a small misunderstanding between Legolas and the Rohan man, all is brought to a good ending and the group starts off again.
They find a smoking pile of Urak-Hai and Orcs, but no sign of Merry and Pippin save for their belts and they fear them dead. However, Aragorn picks up the tracks and they journey into the depths of Fangorn Forest.
In the forest, Legolas hears the horses get startled and they see a cloaked man. Fearing it to be Saruman, they become worried and press on. Later, Legolas sees the man again but it ends up being Gandalf. Only when the Elf cried, "Mithrandir! Mithrandir!" did the others truly know who it was.
They all head to Edoras to speak with Theoden and, after depositing their weapons outside, then engaging in a heated battle within, they formulate the plan to go to Helm's Deep.
On the way there they are attacked by Wargs and Legolas does this really cool swing up onto his horse, aside from shooting down the enemy warriors. However, Aragorn falls over a cliff and this the poor Elf can barely stand.
Later however, after once reaching Helm's Deep, Aragorn returns and Legolas gives him the pendant of Arwen which the ranger had lost.
Preparations for battle begin, but Legolas gets worried and he becomes frustrated that his race is leaving men to fight for themselves. With this in mind, he approachs Aragorn, saying that everyone will die. However, after seeing how it angered his friend, he apologizes.
The battle ensues and, during the lulls in the fight, Legolas can be seen picking up stray arrows, sharpening his knives, or just talking to Gimli about how many Orcs and Urak-Hai they've killed.
After the battle, the trio rides out with Gandalf to Isengard.

*SPOILERS TO ENSUE AFTER THIS POINT FOR FANS WHO HAVE ONLY BEEN WATCHING THE MOVIES!*

They pass through Fangorn and Legolas and Gimli make a pact. Gimli will visit Fangorn if Legolas will visit the Glittering Caves under Helm's Deep. It is during this time that Legolas first sees an Ent.
They arrive at Isengard to find Merry and Pippin safe and sound and, after food and drink and a smoke by all those aside from the Elf, they tell each group their stories.
Eventually however, Gandalf confronts Saruman and Legolas is there to witness this first hand. With that taken care of, they head back toward Edoras only to learn that Minis Tirith is in grave danger.
