Well, I just watched The Calcium Kid starring Orlando Bloom.
Here's what I have to say about it...
Orli's job playing milkman turned boxer, Jimmy, was really good.
A lot of people think he played it too eager and I kept this in mind while I was watching the film. I however, have a completely different point of view as to Orli's performace.
Throughout the entire movie, my mind was constantly drawing the connections between Orli himself and the character of Jimmy. The sudden shot to stardom, the prices of fame and the way you play the game, so to speak.
I believe that Orli played the role eagerly, because he connected so incredibly well with Jimmy himself. I know, from various acting classes, that one should not let themselves show in their characters. I also know that Orli knows this even better than me. However, for this film, it was exactly what was needed.
Jimmy was a down home boy who had been through some tough times and didn't have the best life. However, he always kept his dreams right there and reached for them. Jimmy ended up getting that stardom and attaining his dreams.
Wow, just like Orli himself, no?
The movie itself was entertaining. It was, of course, a British Comedy and had it's incredibly funny moments. The scene in the locker room when Jimmy is freaking out at his trainer is just priceless. I'd pay a lot of money to hear Orli's voice crack like that, it was great.
The film, once again, proves that Orli's got the talent and the eagerness, or the drive, for the acting business and it was wonderful to get to watch this movie.
The only thing about it I didn't like was the girl who played Angel. You know, big breasted dumb blonde type. Yeah... it kinda made Jimmy seem a little shallow, him being so attracted to her and all. Especially since they only ran into each other a couple of times.
I give this movie, out of 5 stars... 4.
