CLUB
PRINCIPLES |
|
|
|
Club Objective |
|
1.
Primarily a fun, non-profit social club for outrigger canoeing. While many members are also members of Team
Fear Dragonboat club, the LIOCC is a separate
entity. It is the right of each member
to decide what level of involvement they wish to have with both clubs. |
|
Club Structure |
|
2.
Registered society with the Hong Kong Police, with bank account and three
signatories. The current office
bearers are chairman (Andrew Osborne), secretary (Hiroe
Ambo) and treasurer (Kobi Jansen). Other non-office bearer positions are
paddling session organizer, membership organizer and boat maintenance (Peter
Austin), training and on-water organizer (Andrew Osborne and Ross
Milne). As other responsibilities
arise, the office bearer shall approach members for assistance. |
|
Membership |
|
3.
Membership of the LIOCC is open to all interested people on the basis that
this will generate income for purchasing new boats, and cover recurring costs
such as insurance, repairs and LBC membership. |
|
4.
Recruitment of new members will be done passively, i.e. further active
recruitment of potential members is no longer needed and we will wait to be
approached by people interested in the sport. |
|
5.
New members will pay a HK$2,000 joining fee plus an annual subscription of
HK$500. Minimum age should be 18 years
old for insurance purposes. |
|
6.
Members may sell their joining fee to a non-member if they leave |
|
Guest paddlers |
|
7.
Guest paddlers can have one free session but must pay HK$50 per one hour
minimum session. Fee to be put into Club
dropbox behind the counter at Uncle Russ’s. |
|
8.
Children of members under 18 years old do not have to pay guest fee. |
|
9.
Members have priority over guests and children for use of the canoe. |
|
Insurance |
|
10.
The Club will insure one boat for third party liability and personal injury
for the time being. In case of
accident or injury, members will bear in mind that we are covering all boats
with one insurance policy. Any event
which may lead to a claim should be immediately reported to the chairman and
secretary. |
|
Safety |
|
11.
Safety is taken seriously. Members
should be familiar with the safety manual (see link below). In particular, members should be familiar
with the defined home water and local water zones. |
|
12.
On joining the Club, members should sign a waiver form and leave in the Club dropbox in Uncle Russ’s.
New members shall have a one hour induction session given by an
experienced member of the Club as designated by the chairman. |
|
13.
Experienced canoeists shall be designated by the chairman and must be on the
boat until all members have done three huli
practices and eight paddling sessions.
Members should attend training provided by IPC guest coaches. For those wishing to learn to steer,
special sessions will be arranged by an experienced member. |
|
Organization of paddling sessions |
|
14.
Paddling sessions should be arranged for the convenience of all members. |
|
15.
Paddling sessions on Sundays during the dragon boat season should be timed so
that LIOCC members who are also TF members can paddle immediately after TF
training. |
|
16.
Paddling sessions on Sundays not during the dragon boat season and on
Saturdays at all times can be arranged in accordance with LIOCC members’
requirements. |
|
17.
Open paddling sessions are for all members to join in and therefore the organizer
should keep all members informed preferably by Evite, The deadline for
joining a session is |
|
18.
Reserved paddling sessions are for six members who would like to take a boat
out for a special session – e.g. training for the IPC regatta, long-distance
paddle. Reserved paddling sessions
should not conflict with open paddling sessions or the wishes of the majority
of LIOCC members. |
|
19.
Once members have committed to a paddling session, they have full responsibility
to other members participating in the same session to ·
not withdraw without giving sufficient time to find a replacement, ·
arrive 10 minutes before the session starts. ·
assist with unpacking and packing equipment ·
getting the boats in and out of the water. Members
who must withdraw for good reason have the primary responsibility for finding
a replacement. If no replacement can
be found then the member must make alternative arrangements to attend the
paddle session or contact the other five members so they have the option to
cancel the session. Contact phone
numbers are on the Club website. |
|
20.
When more than one OC goes out during a paddle session, the participating members
shall agree the format of the session on the beach beforehand. The majority of members prefer for boats to
stay together until a designated point after which races or alternative plans
may be appropriate. Changes to the
agreed format while on the water are strongly discouraged. On the water, the steerer in charge and all
paddlers must shut up and paddle.
Disagreements should be resolved on the beach after the session, not
in the boat. Any differences of opinion generated by these arrangements shall
be referred to the chairman for resolution.
The rule of thumb for all arrangements is that the majority rules. |
|
21.
Members agree to enter the IPC OC regattas as a serious goal. Members would also like to participate in
overseas races. In 2006, our target is
