Heres some basic info on the setup of the KA24DE timing chain ...
This shows the guides that Nissan says to remove , I have it already removed in the picture ... The circle shows where the side guide used to be , (notice the two holes) , that is to be discarded ... The single arrow shows the upper chain tentioner , and the double arrows show the lower chain tentioner ....At the top is the upper chain upper guide , that should also be removed .... It is installed in the picture ...Remove and toss it !!
How to do it in the car , well , its not the easyest job , but it can be done ...basicly all of the brackets on the upper right side have to come off , the valve cover and the right side motor mount , also where the mount bolts to the block has to come loose , you have to remove the upper Alternator mount , and it takes some work , but if you remove all of the 17mm bolts , you can twist it away so you can get to the upper front cover bolts , remove the upper cover bolts and gently pry it out ... then you can get to the upper side guide , remove and toss it and the bolts, then silicone the cover and put everything back together .....
This is basicly what the cams sould look like when all set up correctly ...
Drain through 12mm wrench size drain plug circled in Green, replace plug , Fill through 1/2" Ratchet sized fill plug circled in Red until fluid is steadily coming back out of the trans.
