About Me & My Cavies

Hello and Welcome to EDR Caviary!

This is a picture of me and Dan!!

My name is Eric Compton. I am 16, member of 4-H and OCBS and I enjoy the best hobby in the world, cavies.
I got my first crossbred (peruvian/abby) cavy from my 6th grade teacher, and if I remember correctly, more than half of the 4,5 and 6th graders all had full brothers and sisters to mine! (in case your wondering, those 2 were VERY prolific;) and they were all the same color, brownish red! Unfortunatley I didn't have him very long, as he got sick. So we got a couple of other ones, and I always loved them. Then in 2002, I got my first breeding pair of Creams. I was so excited, and I absolutley adored them. I for some reason or another, sold them and got some brokens. It wasn't long before I had gotten some more creams though! Now they are the main focus in my caviary, once again. Right now, I am starting to work on dilute peruvians, peruvians are my favorite long hairs, and I love dilute colors.

I am glad that you could stop by and don't hesitate to email me with any question or comments!

Below are some pictures of the caviary. They are kept in a 10 x 12 foot shed and they seem to like it.. I know that I like it for them!

This is the outside appearance of the shed that the cavies are kept in.

These are some creams in the breeding pen.

I like to keep my sows together. In this pool there are 2 pregnant sows, and 3 jr sows.

Wow who would have thought the bucket would be so popular?!

I keep my peruvians on wood pellets, they work really well. Super absorbant, and keeps out of the hair. Perfect deal! I keep my americans on Pine shavings.

I like to keep my pregnant sows either together, or with the boar until the last minute, so that she doesn't get as lonely, and she moves around, thus avoiding getting fat and having problems birthing.

I thank you for taking the time to look at my web page and come back soon!
