I am devoted to providing therapy that is collaborative, strengths-based, and empowering. Because I honor the therapeutic relationship as an opportunity for profound healing and growth I approach my clients with respect, honesty, transparency, and acceptance. Every individual is a unique being and therefore my style is flexible to each client’s emotional, mental, personal, cultural, and developmental needs. I believe in the inherent good in people and see most problems as arising out of attempts to adapt to the challenges within an environment and not as an individual deficiency. A traumatic experience can affect an individual on many levels and the approach I take to healing addresses mind and body as well as Self or Spirit. In addition, I help people become aware of the power dynamics present in their immediate relationships, their community and in the society at large and I nurture hope, resiliency, self-worth and assertiveness to stand up for themselves and each other.

I meet with individuals as well as couples, families, and groups. I encourage openness and honesty and my style is supportive yet straightforward. I am a feminist therapist meaning that when appropriate, I strive to raise awareness about limiting gender roles for both men and women and to challenge underlying patterns and rules that may not be working for them personally or within their relationships. When suitable, I may introduce exercises such as role playing, guided imagery, drawing, expressive movements, or interactive partner activities for couples. I will always provide a description of the activity and allow my clients the opportunity to decide whether or not they feel it will be comfortable and/or helpful for them.

Information shared with me will be handled respectfully and confidentially. I will present clients with a release of information request form if ever we decide that I should speak with other family members or professionals on their behalf. When seeing couples or families, I will obtain the signatures of all members before any records are shared with an outside party. Limits to confidentiality include when there is threat of harm to the client's self or to others or if information is court ordered. Overall, I will abide by the Code of Ethics for Counselors and Therapists adopted by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists.
