Troop 179
For New Scouts
As
a Scout, there are two things you will need right away:
1.
The
Official Scout Handbook. It is available at the Oregon Trail Council
Trading Post, 2525 Centennial Boulevard, Eugene, Oregon 97401. This handbook contains
a wealth of knowledge. There are pages for the Scout’s record of progress as he
advances. The Scout should always carry the handbook to meetings, Boards of
Review, campouts, and other advancement activities.
2.
A completed medical form. The Class 1 section should be completed before
attending any Scout function. The Class 2 section (with a physician’s
signature) must be completed before attending summer camp.
Meetings
Troop meetings are held every
Monday evening, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the church basement (use the C Street
entrance). Individual patrols may also schedule meetings.
Once every quarter is the Court
of Honor. This meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and generally ends by 8:30
p.m., and it is also held in the church basement. A Court of Honor is when Scouts
receive awards and rank advancements. It is usually a potluck, and it is a time
to invite friends and family.
Patrol Leaders Council (PLC)
meetings are held once a month, on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 in
the church basement. This is the when the Patrol Leaders meet to plan meetings
and upcoming events. Also at this time
is the Parent and Troop Committee meeting. All adults are
encouraged to participate.
· Every
month Troop 179 has at least one service project, Council event, campout, or
other outside activity.
· Each fall
is the Popcorn sale. The Candy sale is held in February. (A percentage of each
Scout’s sales goes into his account.)
· In March
is the Webelos Snow Play Day at Santiam Pass.
· A weeklong
Boy Scout resident camp is held each summer.
·
Each summer there is one campout designated for Family
Camping.
