Next,exit the house and go to the building directly to your left. Walk up and to Professor Elm and talk to him. He'll say hi and that he has a favor to ask you. He says he knows a professor that knows a lot about Pokémon and found something he's very excited about (Togepi's Egg). He asks you to go check out this new discovery in Pokemon. He tells you that you'll need a Pokémon to defend yourself against the wild pokémon that live in the tall grass.
Your choices are: Cyndaquil,the fire pokémon(He's kind of like charmander),Chikorita,the grass pokémon(He's like bulbasaur),and Totodile,the water pokémon(He's like squirtle).Take your pick.They're all pretty useful.
He'll ask you if your sure you want that Pokémon.Say yes. Then he'll ask you if you want to name that pokémon.Your choice.
Professor Elm then tells you that the pokémon professor lives somewhere past Yoshino city.He then shows you a machine and tells you that it heals your pokémon up. He then gives you his phone number(don't worry.Your phone automatically stores the number.)
Outside you may notice a character looking sort of like Gary Oak(from Red & Blue).He's your rival in this game.Beware of him. He's evil.

Head north some more and you'll see a house. Inside you will see the legendary Professor Oak!!! He gives you an egg and tells you your supposed to take it back to Professor Elm then tells you about a couple who breeds pokémon(that's where he got the egg).He tells you that you are worthey of receiving a pokédex(pokédex is now available in your menu).
When you exit the house,you will get a phone call from Prof. Elm telling you to bring the egg back to him.
Head down through route 30 back to Yoshino city. Once you return to Wakaba,a man will ask you how many pokemon you have caught and will teach you how to catch pokémon. As you return to Wakaba,your rival stops you and challenges you to a pokemon duel(yes it is a boy.)Attack him until you win(Note if your pokémon runs low on energy,it has an item that will automatically recover it's health).Continue into Professor Utsugi's Lab.
Jenny is chatting with Professor Utsugi about a long-haired redhead boy(your rival) stealing one of Utsugi's pokémon. They'll ask you if you know who stole them. You will then be asked to give him a name. (Let's refer to you as Hiroki and him as Tetsuo(cool names,huh?). Utsugi gives you the details and then asks for the egg.
He thinks it is a pokémon. He tells you that you should check out the gyms and enter the orange league. The nearest gym is Kikyo City Gym.
