Griffins

The Griffin is a very rare creature but is among the most powerful. With the head, claws, and wings of an eagle, a body of a lion, and large size the Griffin is an incredible creature. The Griffin's powerfull image comes from the symbolism behind it's form. With the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a Lion it dominates both the earth and the sky. The god Apollo rode a griffin. Griffin's gaurded the gold of the Hyperboreans of the far north. At first Griffin's were thought to be of satan's menions entrapping human souls. Later in history they obtained a more respectable reputation by becmoing a symbol of dual nature, or of Man and Christ. With this good reputation griffin's became the enemies of basilisks and serpents which were viewed as demonic creatures.
