 | Hi, my name is Ashly. I'm 10 years old and I weigh 47 lbs and I'm 3ft 7 I have Geleophysic Dysplasia, a rare skeletal Dysplasia believed to be a lysosomal storage disease, but the genes involved is still unknown. There are over 1,000 disorders that cause short stature, Dwarfism, and
other growth related disorders. The most common form of Dwarfism is
Achondroplasia, it's an Osteochondrodysplasia, a group of disorders
inherited as an autosomal dominant disorder. ( 1 out of 25,000 births )
defects appear in the enchondral bone formation causing the bone or
cartilage to grow abnormally causing a short limbed skeletal dysplasia.
Pituitary Gland Disorders, Thyroid Gland Disorders, or tumors in these
areas may cause a defect or an interuption in the thyroid hormone. the
natural human growth hormone or other hormones which is necessary
& needed for normal bone growth and healthy development in a child.
A defiency in one of these harmones causes abnormal growth in bones
causes slow growth, resulting in a short statured or dwarfism condition
like Hypopituitarism, Pseudohypopthyroidism, and pituitary dwarfism
Sometimes a mutation or errors occurs in a gene or a transporter gene
that distributes the collagen. collagen Deficiency causes an abnormal
development in bones, musculoskeletal system, connective tissue &
cartilage. It effects both long and short bone development of growth
plates, bone density, production of synovial fluid ( joint lubrication )
allowing the joints, tendons, and ligaments to move and glide freely
Skeletal Dysplasia is caused from an abnormal development of bones
during fetal development or growth causing short stature, dwarfism,
metabolic diseases (MPS, lipidoses), collagen disorders (OI, kniest)
