Notes
:
The Colonial Cobra is an interceptor class
starfighter. This fighter was designed with
four engine thrusters for the purpose of
interception and to be versatile enough for hit
and run tactics. Still in the experimental stage,
so far only one Battlestar , the Pacifica, has
been equipped with the Cobra. Black star squadron
has the honor of field-testing these new
fighters. The pilots of this squadron have been
asked for input on the design and possible
upgrades. So far they are the pride of the fifth
fleet, racking more kills than any other
squadron. The size of the Cobra is slightly
larger than a standard Viper fighter. There was
concern that they wouldnt fit in the
Battlestars launch tubes, with out
modification, but they did indeed fit with a few
inches of clearance on all sides.
The weapons package has been upgraded as
well. While the laser mounts look the same,
they are powered by larger power
energizers. This has given the Cobra twice the
firepower of the standard viper at normal firing
rates , but regular power at twice the normal
firing rate.
One thing that makes this fighter exceptional in
combat is A.R.C.S. (This is an early model of
CORA from BSG). A.R.C.S. stands for Advanced
Response Computer System. This is a computer that
is hooked in to every system on the fighter :
life support, sensors, flight control, weapons,
propulsion, communication and more.
There is an audio interface that can converse
with the pilot. The pilot has control of the
fighter, and the computer is just there to
assist. However if the pilot becomes
incapacitated A.R.C.S. can take over , even
in mid combat. There is word of a new flight
helmet in production with a thought reading
interface designed to reduce reaction time
between pilot thought and action. This has not
been confirmed or denied. A.R.C.S. is semi
programmable by the pilot of each fighter. What
that means is that the voice module is programmed
by the pilot, Its voice modulation and
parts of its personality, limited as it may
be.
